Sangeet Natak Akademi Gallery of Musical Instruments

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's national academy for music, dance and drama, was established in 1952 as the country's apex body for the performing arts. To document and preserve the nation's instrumental heritage, the Akademi assembled a national collection of musical instruments, displayed in its gallery at Rabindra Bhawan in New Delhi, alongside its wider archival and documentation work. The collection spans the classical, folk and tribal instruments of the country's many musical traditions.

The gallery is housed within Rabindra Bhawan on Feroze Shah Road in central New Delhi, the modernist cultural complex that also houses the Lalit Kala and Sahitya Akademis, at the heart of the capital's arts precinct near Mandi House. The instrument collection is displayed as part of the Akademi's museum and documentation facilities.
