Tritha Electric is an Indo-French fusion and psychedelic-rock band based between New Delhi and Paris, formed in 2010 by vocalist and bandleader Tritha Sinha and drummer Paul Schneiter, later joined by guitarist Mathias Durand. The band plays an explosive blend of psychedelic and krautrock-inspired rock with North Indian classical and folk melodies.
Formed in 2010, Tritha Electric released its debut album PaGLI on Sony Music in 2014, following it with Raagas in Paris and further work, and touring more than 150 concerts across three continents, from WOMEX in Budapest and the Cannes Film Festival to festivals across Europe and Asia. Tritha Sinha, born in Kolkata and a former Bollywood singer turned bandleader, has been described by outlets like the BBC, ARTE and Canal+ as a music activist, and has taken her raga-rock and its social message to audiences around the world.
The artistry
Tritha Electric fuses Tritha Sinha's decades of North Indian classical training, in the Bishnupur gharana, with the raw energy of psychedelic rock, krautrock, punk and electronica. Her dusky, intense voice anchors a sound that is at once meditative and explosive, and her recordings and videos poetically confront social issues, notably violence against women, giving the band both artistic and activist weight.
