About
Ritesh and Rajnish Mishra are a Hindustani classical vocal duo of the Benares gharana, sons and disciples of the celebrated Pandit Rajan Mishra of the legendary Rajan-Sajan Mishra brothers. They perform khayal, thumri and allied forms, carrying forward one of Banaras's great musical lineages.
Ritesh and Rajnish Mishra were trained by their father Pandit Rajan Mishra and their uncle Pandit Sajan Mishra, the famed Rajan-Sajan Mishra duo of the Benares gharana. Performing from a young age at leading festivals including the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, they have continued the family tradition as a vocal duo, sustaining the Benares khayal and thumri legacy into a new generation.
The artistry
Singing as a pair in the Benares gharana tradition, the brothers combine the gharana's expansive khayal with its rich thumri, tappa and tarana repertoire, their voices interweaving in the manner of their illustrious forebears. Their music preserves the distinctive lyricism and rhythmic play of the Banaras style.
