Shanmukhapriya and Haripriya, known as the Priya Sisters, are a popular Carnatic vocal sister-duo. Trained in the lineage of the legendary G. N. Balasubramaniam through their gurus Radha and Jayalakshmi, they are known for their melodious, well-matched singing and a devoted following.
Born in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Shanmukhapriya and Haripriya began learning Carnatic music from their father V. V. Subbaram, who moved the family to Chennai to nurture their talent, and later became disciples of the renowned duo Radha and Jayalakshmi, disciples of G. N. Balasubramaniam. They rose as one of the popular Carnatic vocal duos, performing at the Chennai Season and sabhas across India and abroad.
