National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum (Crafts Museum)

Established in 1956 to preserve and revive India's threatened craft traditions in the years after independence, the museum built a comprehensive collection of the country's folk, tribal and courtly crafts. Its move to a purpose-designed campus by Charles Correa, conceived as a sequence of village courtyards, embodied its philosophy of showing craft as a living practice, and its resident demonstrations and craft bazaar made it a model for craft museums in India.
