Kiran Nadar Museum of Art

The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art opened on 1 January 2010 as India's first private museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, established at the initiative of the collector and philanthropist Kiran Nadar and supported by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. It began as a gallery in the HCL Technologies premises in Noida, opening with the exhibition Open Doors, before moving to its present space at South Court Mall in the Saket District Centre, inaugurated with Time Unfolded. Conceived to share Nadar's collection and to address the scarcity of institutional spaces for modern and contemporary art in India, it operates as a non-commercial, not-for-profit museum with free entry, and Forbes Asia named Nadar a hero of philanthropy in 2010 for launching it.

The museum currently occupies galleries at South Court Mall in Saket, with a former Noida space now closed. A landmark new museum has been commissioned near Indira Gandhi International Airport, designed by the Ghanaian-British architect Sir David Adjaye and Adjaye Associates, chosen through an invitation-only international design competition. Conceived as a self-cleaning white concrete building of over 90,000 square metres with eleven galleries, and designed for a low-carbon footprint aiming at a LEED Platinum rating, it is set to become one of India's flagship cultural buildings.
