The Story
OrganizerEstablished in 2010 as the first privately funded museum of modern and contemporary art in India to open its collection to the public without charge, KNMA grew from Kiran Nadar's personal collecting into a major cultural institution. Through exhibitions, scholarship and outreach it has helped shape public engagement with Indian modernism and contemporary art, and its planned Adjaye-designed museum is set to become one of the country's flagship cultural buildings.
KNMA has been a pioneering force in bringing modern and contemporary Indian art to a wide public, setting a benchmark for private museums in India and strengthening the infrastructure for showing, studying and preserving the country's twentieth and twenty-first century art.
