Born into a musical family, he has sung over a hundred Bollywood songs, released albums and given many live performances over a career spanning more than three decades.
Rakesh Pandit was born in 1967 in Mumbai to the classical artiste Shambhu Pandit of the renowned qawwali duo Shanker-Shambhu, and began singing at the age of three alongside his father. Active as a professional singer from 1989, he built a career across ghazal and Sufi albums and over a hundred Bollywood playback songs, recording for major labels and performing widely.
