Ankur & The Ghalat Family is the Hindi-Urdu indie and folk-rock band of singer-songwriter, lyricist and music supervisor Ankur Tewari, formed in Mumbai in 2009. Known for simple, heartfelt lyrics, whistled hooks and a warm, 90s-pop-infused sound, they are widely regarded as one of Indian indie's most beloved bands.
Ankur Tewari, part of India's independent music scene since 1998, formed The Ghalat Family (from galat fehmi, misunderstanding) in 2009, releasing the album Jannat (2010) and SideA/Side B (2016) and hits like Mohabbat Zindabad and Sabse Peeche Hum Khade. Beyond the band, Tewari became an award-winning lyricist and music supervisor (including for Gully Boy) and a showrunner for Coke Studio Bharat. The band has played festivals from NH7 Weekender and VH1 Supersonic to Kalaa Utsavam Singapore, SXSW and a US tour, cementing its place as a much-loved Hindi indie act.
