The Story

Organizer

The Freer Gallery, opened in 1923 on the bequest of Charles Lang Freer, and the later Sackler Gallery, formed the Smithsonian's Asian art museum. Together they built strong holdings and research programmes in Indian and South Asian art within the national museum complex of the United States.
