The Story

Organizer

Established in the 1850s and rehoused from 1880 in the ornamented building designed by Robert Chisholm, the museum was named after Lord Napier, Governor of Madras. Supported by the culturally ambitious Travancore state, it grew into a repository of Kerala's art and craft and a landmark of Thiruvananthapuram.

Cultural Significance

The Napier Museum preserves the artistic heritage of Kerala and the Travancore state, uniting a distinguished collection with one of India's most admired examples of nineteenth-century Indo-Saracenic museum architecture.
