The Story
OrganizerEstablished in 1994 and later rehoused in the historic Santa Monica convent in the World Heritage precinct of Old Goa, the museum gathered Christian art from churches and convents across Goa. Its collection embodies the fusion of Portuguese Catholic and Indian artistic traditions that flourished in Goa from the sixteenth century onward.
The Museum of Christian Art preserves the distinctive Indo-Portuguese Christian art of Goa, a singular hybrid tradition that testifies to the cultural exchange at the heart of the region's history.
