The Story
OrganizerFounded by the industrialist and collector Emile Guimet in the late nineteenth century, the museum grew into France's national museum of Asian art, assembling major collections of Indian, Khmer, Chinese and Himalayan art through expeditions, purchases and the concentration of Asian holdings from other French collections.
The Musee Guimet is a leading European centre for Asian and Indian art, advancing scholarship and appreciation of the subcontinent's artistic traditions across the continent.
