The Story
OrganizerConceived to give Bihar, one of the cradles of Indian civilisation, a museum worthy of its heritage, the Bihar Museum was developed in the 2010s and opened in stages from 2015. Its award-winning modern architecture and thematic galleries reflect a new approach to museum design in India, and its holdings, drawn in part from the older Patna Museum, centre on the region's Mauryan and ancient past, most notably the exquisite Didarganj Yakshi.
The Bihar Museum has set a new benchmark for contemporary museum design and interpretation in India, giving one of the country's most historically important regions a world-class home for its heritage.
