The Story

Organizer

Conceived under Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, a great modernising patron, the museum was built in an Indo-Saracenic style and opened around the turn of the twentieth century, with the Picture Gallery added to house the ruler's collection of European paintings. It became a centrepiece of Baroda's celebrated cultural and educational ambitions.
