Archaeological Museum, Amaravati

The museum was established in the late nineteenth century to house sculpture recovered from the Amaravati mahastupa, a monument whose carvings had already been dispersed to museums in Chennai, London and elsewhere. It preserves the antiquities that remained at the site, documenting a pivotal chapter in the history of Buddhist art.
