Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is one of the most respected and dynamic cultural institutions in India, based in T. Nagar in Chennai. Active since the 1950s, it has presented more than fifteen thousand events of music, dance, drama and discourse, and is renowned for its role in the annual Chennai Music Season and, in particular, for popularising Bharatanatyam and dance-drama alongside Carnatic music. Its auditorium is among the most sought-after performance venues in the city.
Established in the 1950s, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha grew into one of Chennai's foremost sabhas, distinguished by its long-running dance festival and its championing of dance-drama, which brought Bharatanatyam and thematic productions to prominence within the December season. Over the decades it has hosted generations of leading Carnatic musicians and classical dancers and instituted awards recognising excellence in the performing arts, becoming a cornerstone of the city's cultural calendar.
