To promote and provide a dedicated space for Carnatic music, classical dance and drama, and to give exposure to artists both eminent and emerging.
Narada Gana Sabha is one of the foremost cultural associations in Chennai, founded on 9 February 1958 by residents of Mylapore devoted to Carnatic music and the performing arts. After functioning from various venues in its early years, including the Music Academy hall, the Sabha acquired land on T. T. K. Road and inaugurated its own auditorium there in 1988, now among the most respected performance halls in the city. It presents Carnatic music concerts, Bharatanatyam and other classical dance, and drama, and is a central venue of the annual Chennai Music Season.
Founded in 1958 as one of the many sabhas that flowered during the post-independence expansion of Chennai's music scene, Narada Gana Sabha grew from an initial two hundred members into a large institution with well over a thousand members drawn from every walk of life. It became known for its well-appointed auditorium and consistent programming, hosting generations of artists from celebrated masters to promising newcomers, and curating its own annual festival alongside its role in the December season. It celebrated its golden jubilee in 2008.
