Bangalore Gayana Samaja is one of the oldest music organisations in India, founded in Bengaluru in 1905 and having celebrated its centenary in 2005. It promotes a wide range of the Indian performing arts, including Carnatic and Hindustani music, devotional and light music, Harikatha, folk music and theatre, alongside classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Kathakali, Odissi and Manipuri. It holds an annual conference, concerts, lecture-demonstrations and a Composer's Day, and confers the title Sangeeta Kalarathna on eminent musicians.
Founded in 1905, Bangalore Gayana Samaja has for well over a century been a central institution of classical music in Karnataka, honouring leading musicians with the title Sangeeta Kalarathna, publishing its journal Gayana Samrajya, and sustaining an unbroken tradition of concerts, conferences and lecture-demonstrations across the Indian classical arts.
