Asmita Theatre Group is a prolific and influential Delhi theatre group, founded in 1993 by the director Arvind Gaur. It is known for socially and politically engaged theatre, both on the proscenium stage and in street performances, and for nurturing a large number of actors over three decades.
Founded in 1993 by Arvind Gaur after his years in journalism and television, Asmita built a large body of issue-based productions and street theatre tackling communalism, caste, gender and human rights, and became one of Delhi's most active theatre training grounds. Its cultural wing played a prominent role in the 2010 India Against Corruption movement, and its workshops have launched many actors, making Asmita a significant institution of contemporary Indian political and socially committed theatre.
