The Alliance Francaise network in India comprises fifteen main city centres, part of the worldwide Alliance Francaise founded in Paris in 1883. Locally registered Indian associations, they offer French-language classes and organise a wide array of visual and performing arts events and exhibitions, serving as a principal platform for Indo-French cultural exchange.
The Alliance Francaise, founded in 1883 to promote French language and culture worldwide, has a long presence in India, where the Delhi and Chennai centres alone span some seven decades. Its fifteen main Indian centres and their annexes are autonomous registered Indian associations that teach French and administer the DELF-DALF examinations, while participating actively in the country's cultural life through exhibitions, performances, film and the periodic Bonjour India festival. Since 2012 the network has been coordinated by the Institut Francais en Inde in New Delhi.
