About
The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi is the state academy for music, dance and drama of Kerala, established in Thrissur in 1958. Charged with promoting and preserving the state's exceptionally rich performing-arts traditions, from Kathakali and Koodiyattam to folk and classical music, it honours artists with awards and fellowships, organises festivals and performances, and documents Kerala's living heritage.
Set up in 1958 as part of the network of state akademis that followed the founding of the national Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Kerala akademi took on the task of nurturing the state's remarkable range of classical, ritual and folk performing arts. Headquartered in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, it has supported artists and troupes, conferred honours and sustained festivals and documentation across the state.

The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi is the principal state institution for the performing arts of Kerala, sustaining and honouring the traditions that make the state one of India's richest performance cultures.
[Atlas Perspective] The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi is a cultural operator, a state performing-arts body that promotes, honours and documents the arts, not a funder in the grant-making sense. It is a foundational partner for Kerala's classical, folk and ritual performing-arts initiatives. Named current office-holders should be web-verified and date-stamped.
