Kala Academy Goa is the premier cultural institution of Goa, a Government of Goa society started in 1970 and housed in a landmark building on the Mandovi designed by Charles Correa. It is the apex body to develop and promote the state's music, dance, drama, fine art, folk art and literature.
Established in 1970 with the help of the central Ministry of Art & Culture and set in a celebrated Charles Correa building at Campal, Panaji, Kala Academy Goa grew into the nerve centre of the state's performing and visual arts. It trains students through faculties of Indian and Western music, dance and drama and its College of Theatre Arts, organises festivals, competitions and exhibitions, preserves Konkani theatre and Goan folk forms, and has served since 2004 as the primary venue for the International Film Festival of India.
