The Japan Foundation, New Delhi is the Indian office of the Japan Foundation, Japan's principal institution dedicated to international cultural exchange. It promotes Japanese-language education, including regular, theme-based and conversational classes, alongside arts and cultural exchange spanning film, performing arts, exhibitions and design, and intellectual exchange, working to deepen mutual understanding between Japan and India. It maintains a library and runs a continuous programme of events introducing Japanese culture to Indian audiences and supporting collaboration between artists of the two countries.
Established in New Delhi in the 1990s as the Indian arm of the Japan Foundation, the centre has grown into one of the most active promoters of Japanese culture in India, running Japanese-language courses, the JLPT examination, and a steady calendar of film screenings, performing-arts programmes, exhibitions and cultural events, and supporting exchange between Japanese and Indian artists and scholars.
