About
Dhrupad Sansthan is a gurukul in Bhopal dedicated to dhrupad, the oldest surviving genre of Hindustani classical music, founded by the celebrated Gundecha Brothers. Through immersive residential training in the guru-shishya tradition, it teaches and preserves dhrupad for students from India and around the world, and has been central to the contemporary revival of the tradition.
Established by the Gundecha Brothers, among the foremost dhrupad exponents of their generation, the Sansthan built a residential gurukul near Bhopal where the austere, meditative art of dhrupad is transmitted directly from guru to disciple. It has trained many young dhrupad singers and instrumentalists and drawn international students, helping ensure the survival of a tradition once at risk.
