Ank Theatre Group is one of India's oldest and most celebrated Hindi theatre ensembles, founded in Mumbai in 1976 by the theatre and film figure Dinesh Thakur. Dedicated solely to Hindi theatre, it has staged more than 7,500 shows of over 80 plays across India and overseas.
Established in 1976 by Dinesh Thakur, who left a successful film career to devote himself to the stage, Ank became India's largest Hindi theatre group, celebrated for a repertoire ranging from the record-breaking comedy Hai Mera Dil to the searing Partition play Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya. Performing at Prithvi Theatre and touring from Mumbai to Mauritius, Singapore, Dubai and London, the group has continued its work after Thakur's death in 2012, sustaining one of Indian theatre's longest-running ensembles.
